After only a year in action, the Sabden Cubs & Beavers Pack has, in its own little way, become famous before its time. Not only have we had our own article in the Cub Magazine but we have our own professional working models within our ranks, gorgeous they both are too (matter of opinion of course)!
Here’s to an even more successful second year!
THE LEADERS.
The date is set for the first Sabden Cubs & Beavers no kids allowed Christmas Party at Whalley Golf Club on Saturday the 12th December. The finer details are yet to be finalised but we are thinking about a meal and disco/band until late. As we want to raise money for the group we will be fund raising in some way on the night. The party is open to anyone so how about having your usual Christmas party (if you are lucky enough to have one) with us? Bring your Nanna if you want, we only want her money (for the kids of course)! If you want to make a booking see Gill and she will put you on the list.
Electronic Mail
This is the last newsletter that you will receive by our fair hand. To keep up with our children with their up to date and modern techniques we are sending all information, including the newsletter by email. It is therefore going to be crucial that you keep us informed if you change your email address.
Don’t forget about our Facebook page and website (www.sabden1st.co.uk.) . There will be a copy of the newsletter on the website and a link to it on Facebook. We think that covers most areas. However, we do only have one email per couple and if you are unlucky enough to have a bit of a dopey husband or wife who may not pass on our info then feel free to give us more email addresses!
Bonfire Night
The Sabden bonfire and firework extravaganza are to be held on Saturday 7th November. Last year we managed to raise over £280 in an hour despite being new to serving sausages. Needless to say we feel far more ambitions this year and feel that we can provide a really good service to the village and improve our bank balance in the process. The money will help us to take the kids on some fantastic trips away.
But as with anything the success is in the planning and preparation and we need you to help us in any way you can. Firstly, we would welcome your ideas. We will be selling hotdogs, sweets, soft drinks and cakes. Do you have any other ideas that would help us to raise money? Also, we would appreciate as many donations as possible.
Beaver Uniform
We have 4 new Beavers joining this term and 3 Beavers moving up to Cubs. If you are a parent of one of these have you thought about selling/buying uniform to/from the old/’new Beavers (gosh this is complicated)? It seems a shame for it to go to waste and will save money. Just a thought! If you want details of who is joining or leaving ask one of the leaders.
Autumn Programme
Cubs
The Autumn programme this year is based around community and creativity. These will be the main badges we will work towards and we will be encouraging the boys to do a lot of work towards them independently. The other badges being considered are communications and orienteering but we need to see how thing go with those.
Beavers
The Beavers will be working towards their Global Challenge and Experiment badges. There are also many badges that they can achieve in their own time.
An exciting project that we are planning for the Cubs & Beavers together is to prepare boxes of useful things for our Troops serving away in Afganistan. We will let you know about this nearer the time.
A note for parents of Cubs & Beavers
We learnt last year that kids are v excited when they first arrive but on occasion the over enthusiastic behaviour of some prevents us getting things done in the shyort time we have. If we could gently ask you to help us with this and speak with your children and reinforce the fact they are to behave in the meetings.
